Building and Zoning
Your home or business is a significant investment. Enforcing building code and zoning ordinances protects that investment. A property owner who can show that code requirements were strictly enforced can give confidence to future buyers, bankers, and insurance companies that the building has a firm foundation on which to stand. Your permit also allows the code official to protect the public by reducing the potential hazards of unsafe construction and ensuring public health, safety and welfare.
BUILDING PERMITS
The City of Perham requires that building alteration or construction within its jurisdiction comply with the Minnesota State Building Code. The Perham Building Official is charged with enforcing these provisions. The building official has the authority to determine if and when building permits and professional plan preparations are required by law and to review plans and inspect construction projects. Failure to obtain the necessary permit before construction starts, will lead to the contractor/property owner being subject to fines and/or prosecution.

To provide for the orderly development of the community, the City of Perham has adopted a Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance. The Zoning Ordinance provides a basis for what uses can be conducted on various properties. The Subdivision Ordinance provides the requirements to split properties into smaller parcels.
